Project: A Thousand Words
One in 150 children is diagnosed with autism. Perhaps it seems like a small number, but connect it with the face of a child and you may just get the chills. As a mother of a child with autism, I often hear, "Your son looks so normal." Of course he does! Children with autism are just as beautiful as other kids and, although some are non-verbal, their pictures are worth a thousand words.
My son inspired me to begin photographing him and his schoolmates. I exhibit my work at his school and intend to compile the photos into a book: A Thousand Words, A Photography Collection of Children with Autism.
